Brock

3 and a half year-old Black & Tan male. He is a normal mischievous Dobie. He is good with people and has lived with Dobie bitches. He is not used to cats. He needs an owner that will not be too soft with him, as he can be dominant, and somebody who is at home all day. He is as bright as a button and quick to learn.

Great news for Brock. The lovely lady who has been looking after Brock for DRA will be keeping him as her own.

Monty
Monty

Monty had lived in a garden since birth with 5 other dogs. The owner was an elderly woman. She advertised them for sale in a chip shop. Monty had bite marks to his face and was used to having to fight for his share of food.

He was 4 months old when he came to us. We got him to a good weight, house trained him and taught him basic commands. He is now very happy in a loving home.

Benny
Benny Benny

This is a pic of Benny when he first came to us. He was the gentlest of boys, you can see from the first picture the state he was in. He stayed long enough to put on a good amount of weight and we also helped him build up his confidence.

This is Benny after he'd been with us a relatively short period of time. It didn't take long for him to put on the weight with decent food and heaps of love and reasurance.

Pippa
Pippa

Pippa was unwanted by her owners so stayed with us for a short time.

Pippa is now very happily settled into her new permanent home. She frequently takes trips to France where her family take their holidays.

Leila
Leila Leila

Leila was purchased from her breeder at the age of 7 months. Both her owners worked long hours running a restaurant. Leila lived in the garden tethered by a chain that was not long enough to allow her to shelter in the garden shed.

Leila was fed on potatoes and kitchen scraps. She was very fortunate that a few neighbours were aware of her plight and a group of them put in money to buy her from her then owners and brought her into rescue.

Otis
Otis Otis

Otis [had several owners before coming to us. He'd been exchanged in a pub for his last home! While we do not agree with the breeding of albino (white) Dobermanns his need for a home with someone who could understand his needs and possible future health problems was great.

Otis is now extremely happy and contented in his new home with an owner who sees to his every need.

Roman
Roman Roman

Roman was ten and a half months old when we brought him home from the Rescue Centre for Dobermans he had been rescued along with his brother from the outskirts of London. All we knew was he was kept outside all the time on concrete and as you can see from the first day photo he was painfully thin and his claws were very badly warn down.

Now seven months on Roman is having a happy life with us and our other Doberman Cleo. We have all formed a very close bond and have lots of fun together. Roman has a beautiful temperament and loves lots of kisses and cuddles. Here is a recent picture of our Roman.

Chance came into rescue at the age of 13 weeks with his two litter sisters.  Unfortunately Chance's new home failed to work out for him, through no fault of his own.

At 7 months of age, Chance (renamed Buster) finally found his forever home, he lives with two other dobes, Amy & Leah and is provided with lots of love, training and attention. Here is a picture of Buster on his first birthday looking super. x

China
China

China was brought into rescue at the tender age of just 12 weeks old, along with her brother and sister. She'd been living in the garden shed with her litter mates. Their Dam had attacked them (on more than one occassion) which has left some scarring, and left all pups anxious around adult dogs.

China was a thin, dirty, scared puppy when brought in. She had very little muscle tone, and a head tilt. After receiving veterinary treatment she was able to live in a temporary home, providing her with a family environment, other Dobermann playmates and the opportunity to enjoy being a puppy. She has now overcome her fear of adult dogs.

China has put on a good amount of weight, has learned the basic training commands and is now a lively, confident puppy.

He's fine with Tiny but Jethro and Winnie love to wind each other up by occupying each others beds (as you can see in the update pic). She now lives with children, cats and 2 other dogs and is in complete control over everyone, in the best possible way.

Dylan
Dylan Dylan

15 month old Dylan was rehomed in May with a DRA volunteer. He was nervous, showing signs of fear aggression and not being socialized and needed a special home where he would receive lots of training, patience and love to help him overcome his fears.

Dylan’s owners spend a lot of time training and helping Dylan with his anxieties and we are so proud at how well he is responding.  He is happy and settled extremely well with his new family and Border Terrier playmates.

We receive lots of updates on Dylan’s progress and often laugh at the funny things that he gets up. In such a short time he has mastered basic obedience and attends training classes for extra socialization. It was no surprise that within a matter of weeks Dylan progressed to the next class.

Although Dylan still has some fears, his confidence is growing daily, his owners say ‘Dylan is just over 17 months, but at times he is so calm you'd think he was an oldie’. Their commitment to training, love and understanding has made a huge difference for Dylan x

Sadly for us all, Dylan passed away on 1/10/07

Baxter

Foster home required on behalf of Greyfriars Rehabilitation and Hydrotherapy Referral Centre in Guildford, Surrey.

Since early May we have been looking after a male doberman called Baxter. He is now 12 months old. He came to us as an inpatient following a fractured spine and fractured hind leg (he was hit by a car in March).

The spinal injury has left him with nerve damage which means he has trouble controlling toileting (leaks urine and sometimes faecal accidents) although this has improved a lot and will continue to improve. We no longer have to catheterise him and he can now walk and run with minimal help (catching him is the problem - see photos!). He has made an amazing recovery as he was not expected to walk again. For the last 6 weeks he has been going home for weekends. At night I have been taking him home with me as he sleeps through the night and just likes to be close to you. He responds well to affection and loves to be cuddled. We have had to teach him to play again and he swims in our hydro pool every day.

Baxter was due to be discharged on Thursday this week but the night before he was due to leave one of his owners was taken seriously ill. The circumstances mean that it is unlikely Baxter will ever be able to return home and be cared for properly. The most likely scenario is that he will be signed over to me and eventually rehomed. At the moment he is entire as castration was delayed to aid fracture healing. If he is signed over he will be castrated asap.

Baxter will need a lot of Greyfriars support and help for the next 3 months but he would be much happier and easier to care for now in a home environment. We are desperately looking for someone who would be able to foster him - they would need to be at home or work at home. Also they would need to be near enough to Guildford to bring Baxter in for appointments initially a minimum of twice a week. As part of our commitment to dogs rehomed through us his continuing care would be funded by Greyfriars for the rest of his life. There are also some charity funds available to pay towards foster care.

When Baxter came to us he was very defensive with strangers - his time in hospital had removed him from home at an important social learning time. He is much better now and spends most of each day in reception meeting lots of people and dogs. He has learnt to talk rather than bark. We have all fallen in love with him and he has been so plucky and determined to get over his injuries he really deserves a chance to have a normal life. He is loving and good with all other dogs (especially the girls).

Baxter is now back home with his original family.  The husband has been able to change his working practices in order to accommodate looking after him.  Greyfriars are still in touch and are helping when necessary.  We hope Baxter continues to make good progress.

Chas has now been with us a short while but it feels like she's been ours forever. She's lost some weight and toned up a little. She loves her walks and little training sessions and tries so hard to get it right. She loves to play and has learned to fetch after not knowing what a ball was for. She takes herself upstairs every morning to wake up her "Dad" for her biscuit and proudly brings it down to show her "Mum" before she eats it.  We're so very lucky to belong to Chas now.

Defa
Defa

Defa is a black and tan, 15 month old, entire male dobe. Although he is a large strong boy he is a big adorable softy.

Defa has lived with a family with children aged 5 years and over and other dogs and a cat.

When he came into kennels his coat was a little poor and scurfy but over the last few days it is improving greatly.

If you feel that you can offer this lovely boy the home that he deserves, please fill in an enquiry form.

Update 18/12/07

Defa's Story....

I was asked to rehome Defa initially about 1 year ago as his family were emigrating to the USA and couldn't afford to take him with them. I had an experienced Dobermann home for him but the night before his new owners were to go and meet him, his original owners rang to say that their friends had offered to send them the money for Defa's air fare.

At the end of October this year I had a call from an all breeds rescue in Aldershot to ask me to contact a  "gentleman" as he wanted to rehome his Dobermann, and it was urgent. I contacted him and then asked Michelle (as she lived just down the road) if she could pick the dog up and meet me at the kennels.

It transpired that Defas owner had bought him from the original owner for Ł250 via a newspaper advertisement.

Defa was living in a 1 bedroom flat with a male JRT, he was covered in fleas and had a flea allergy which meant he had no hair on his back legs. After veterinary treatment, his coat has now grown back fully.

I'm now very pleased to let you all know that Defa went to his new home in Stafford at the weekend, with a lovely new family that will care for and love him very much.

Further Update from Defas new family

Defa is so eager to please, he's made himself at home and has chosen one of the settees as his favourite relaxation spot. He has complete "run" of the house.....literally.

Thank you for all your help and organising everything so well. We could not have wished for everything to go smoother than it did. We both would've hated the thought of him spending another night in kennels.

Thanks again for the best christmas present ever, well worth the weeks of waiting.

Max
Max Max Max Max

Max is an eight month old black and tan male dobe who is at present in a foster home.

He has come into rescue due to his owners illness. He is not used to children under twelve years or cats.
He's a nervous unsure boy who needs kind but firm handling to enable him to reach his full potential.

Do you have the time and patience to help Max adjust to a normal life? He has seen very little in his eight months and would benefit from being an only dog, or possibly living with an older bitch. He just needs someone to show him what life is all about.

If you feel you can give Max a loving home and training, please fill in an enquiry form.

Update 7/1/08

Max is now enjoying life with his new family.

Update from Little Nell, Max's carer.

We are very happy to report that Max has a new home. It took us a little by surprise, but in true dobie style Maple and Max did all the work, with just a touch of fate thrown in too.

Max has a fantastic family to guide and take him forward. He will have 7 acres to romp around in and a selection of larger animal friends too, with woods full of birds, rabbits etc...and a sofa to call his own- when the family are in bed! His new owners also work from home so we could not have asked for more for the lad.

It was hard to say goodbye to Max, and there might have been some dust in mine and dh's eyes making them water...but we know that he will have a grand ol' time. When we left he was settling in nicely and had already bagged a warm spot by the wood burner.

His new family say that after just one night Max has fitted in so well it seems like he has always been there. He is enjoying his walks and getting used to his new surroundings.

Big lad has a few more humans to wrap around his paw- he is pretty good at it too!!
Nell, DH and Maple

Update 7/3/08

Well, big lad continues to do DRA proud...he has settled in like a dream, and has now got used to the horses...and the rabbit...and...the farm cat. His family cannot imagine ever not having him.

He runs through the woods and gorse, but comes back to check where the slowcoach humans are! Max1 will often stay outside- in the cold- with his new dad, watching him work, rather than go inside to the warmth of the woodburner. Saying that, he does still like to hog it, belly up and a toy in his mouth...as stressed as it gets!!

Buddy
Buddy

Buddy is an 8 month old black and tan male Dobermann with a tail.

He has had a rather chequered start in life. Buddy lived his early months in a stable, and then more recently was rehomed by "Freeads" to a lady with 6 children, (unfortunately the two younger children developed an allergy to Buddy so he came to DRA).

He hasn't had a lot of training, nor has he seen a lot of life, but he is full of love to give to the right owners. He has not lived with or is not used to cats.
Because of a lack of socialisation Buddy will need to be placed as an only dog. He would be ideally suited to a home in the country where no other dogs are around.
If you feel you can offer Buddy a home with training and socialisation, please fill in an enquiry form.

URGENT FOSTER HOME REQUIRED FOR BUDDY

Buddy is not doing well in the kennel environment. We are looking for a foster home for him until he finds a new home. A foster home for him would need to be very quiet and experienced and have no other dogs or a very friendly bitch. Please contact Chris Omar if you feel you are able to help.

UPDATE FROM CHRIS!   31/01/08

"Yesterday when I visited his run resembled a scene from a chainsaw massacre.
He has made all of his pads bleed from constantly running up and down and barking at the GSD next door.
Yet take him out of the kennel environment and he is a quiet dog who likes nothing better than to sit at your feet and have a cuddle"

Please contact Chris Omar if you are able to offer Buddy a stable home or feel you can foster him.

Good News  17/02/08
Buddy has gone to his new home today.

Reggie - Now Kai
Reggie - Now Kai Reggie - Now Kai

Reggie is a large castrated black & tan male dobe.

He came to us from another rescue (all breeds) having been found as a stray. Unfortunately at some time in his life he has suffered a broken front leg and this has healed crooked as it wasn't treated at the time.

He has a wonderful temperament, liking nothing better than a cuddle. The vet thinks he is about 2 years old and has obviously had a rough life.

Can you give this lovely boy the home he so much deserves?
If so please fill in an enquiry form.

UPDATE - 07/07/08

Successful Rehoming

A Special Thank You to DRA  (An email received by Chris Omar recently)

I just want to say a big thank you to Dobermann Rehoming Association for helping me to rehome my brown & tan dobe who is nearly 7 1/2 years old. For at least 3 years he has cried constantly for hours. He got so bad that it became impossible to live with. Everyone calling or visiting could see how unhappy he was. We bought Bud as an 8 week old puppy and all was fine, but he became hypothyroid at 6 months.

My first child, a little boy, did not have much of an impact on Bud. However when my daughter came along 3 years ago it was too much for Bud to cope with.

He has been to a number of different veterinary institutions and a well known one in Somerset told me to have him rehomed or destroyed. This was too much for me to take on board.

I rang Chris Omar and she recommended an holistic vet, Nick Thompson, who was very good, and in short recognised from his visit that Bud did not like the noise that two young children made and recommended rehoming. He then recommended Sarah Fisher and I told him I already had an appointment booked to see her.

I met Sarah Fisher and the rest is history, Bud has now been rehomed with Sarah Fisher. She is a truly amazing lady. I still get to see Bud even though he is living with Sarah and her dogs.

I just wanted to say Thank you to Chris for telling me about Sarah Fisher and the Tellington Touch, or TTouch.
Many thanks
A Tranter

Benson Scoops Braveheart 2007 Trophy

Benson was a DRA boy. Homed by Chris to John & Steve when he was seven months old. A wonderful boy nicknamed the "Brown Banana" as he was always wagging his tail and bending his body into the shape of a banana!! He also lives with Millie, another brown dobe with a tail, also from DRA who John & Steve adopted at age five and a half months.

At age seven, Benson was taken to Okehampton Veterinary Centre with signs of severe neck pain. X-rays showed one of the discs between the vertabrae in his neck had collapsed putting pressure on his spinal cord causing pain and weakness in his front legs. Benson desperately needed surgery but a blood sample showed up another problem, Von Willebrands which could cause major complications during surgery.
After much agonising, John & Steve made the decision to go for the surgery and Benson was sent to a spinal surgery specialist near Bristol. Thankfully the surgery went well and Benson was back on his feet in days. However Benson suffered a relapse, possibly caused by a bleed around the spinal cord and was unable to stand. With patience and daily physio (and the temptation of a cheese sandwich!) Benson staggered back to his feet and has never looked back.

Much of Bensons recovery is down to the dedication, love and nursing that Steve & John gave.
Chris would like to thank them both for going that extra mile for Benson and showing such devotion. Chris would also like to thank Rosie Lane for her support and also Yvonne Cox for providing the wonderful harness that Steve & John used to support Benson when he began to walk again.

Braveheart awards are nominated monthly by Okehampton staff, to acknowledge pets who have shown great character and bravery during their treatment. At the end of each year the awards are reviewed and voted for by the clients. The winner receives the Braveheart Trophy.

Benson certainly deserves his Braveheart award and trophy!!

CHESTER (was Deko) Needs a forever home !!
CHESTER (was Deko) Needs a forever home !! CHESTER (was Deko) Needs a forever home !!

URGENT !!!
A foster home/home is required as soon as possible for this special boy. He has been diagnosed by the vet as having a scoliosis of the spine. He does well though and is usually a happy boy, and gets on well with a dobe bitch.

Update from Fiona. (Temp Carer) WE STILL NEED A PLACE FOR THIS LOVELY BOY!!

From not eating anything ……………….he now has a wonderful appetite…………..scrambled eggs for breakfast………….milky way with his tablets and chicken and dried food for tea.  Lots of treats too which we don’t think he has ever had before.  Although he has been starved he is not a greedy boy and takes his time enjoying very mouthful.

He sleeps all night on his quilt and I have never had any mess or noise from him.  His only fears we have found so far are having a door shut with him on the other side, hose pipes, sweeping brushes, hoovers, loud noises……

From being very withdrawn and quite depressed he is now coming out of his shell and has a wonderful gentle nature.  He didn't like any fuss or affection when we first had him at home as we don’t think he has ever been given it……………but now he gently comes up to us with his tail moving ever-so lightly and waits for some love……………..after a few seconds he has had enough…………..but it’s a great start.  We leave it to him to come to us as and when he wants us.
Last night he played football for an hour with Myles's 8 year son and it was wonderful to see.

He is so sweet that he lets Holly have the first drink and even if she drops her treats he never goes to get them.

Fiona

She is microchipped and vaccinated but unspeyed at present. She has lived with cats and older children.

Cabbage, A Slightly Different Success
Cabbage, A Slightly Different Success

Chris received a lovely donation cheque along with a "Thank You" letter this week and would like to share it with everyone.

Dear Chris,
I have enclosed a donation for the DRA as a thank you for putting me in touch with Angela Cardill up here in the North East.
My husband had gone off to work in the Middle East and had left me with an eight month old loopy dobe pup. I had made the agonising decision to give him up and contacted DRA via email. Within hours I received a reply, then Angela phoned me.
She came to see us three days in a row and basically showed me how to be the boss. Within half an hour Cabbage was acting like a different dog! Angela showed me how far a bit of patience can go.
Two months down the line, Cabbage is doing brilliantly! He no longer bounces down the street! He doesn't even pull on the lead anymore. I am so glad I contacted DRA as you have shown me just what a fabulous breed Dobermanns really are!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts,
Claire & Cabbage

All at DRA would like to wish Claire and Cabbage a wonderful life, and it was a pleasure to be of help. A little confidence goes a long way.
Many thanks for your donation Claire.
All at DRA x

Chesters Story
Chesters Story Chesters Story

The first is a very upsetting picture.

This is Chester who came to live with my family on 4th April 2007.  This photo was taken just 2 days after I picked him up.  I found out about Chester through a friend who is involved with Doberman Rescue.  This was not a cruelty case but a very very sad one.  Chester’s previous owner was unfortunately in the same sorry state as him.  His owner was unfortunately very ill at this time and unable to look after Chester in the same way he had done for ten years.  A relative came home from working away to find Chester and his owner in this state.  He was taken to the vets and they advised to put him to sleep, due to his age and condition (he was 10yrs coming up 11) but luckily for Chester she could see that he needed another chance.  The vets then advised to put him up for adoption as he needed care and attention throughout the day, and she was unable to do this due to working commitments.  I am fortunate enough to work at my home premises.

When I first met Chester I was amazed how pleased and interested he was to see new people, and I managed to keep my tears at bay until I got him home.  I rang my husband at work to prepare him for the state Chester was in.  The next day I took him along to our vets to register him with them; everyone was in shock when they saw him.  He was not only very thin but also had sores on his body, his coat was nonexistent underneath his belly, and he also had a very bad infection on one of his front paws, where a small piece of dewclaw had been left in.  Chester’s tail never stopped wagging.  The vets advised feeding him 4 times a day, but I decided that I would feed him 6 times a day.  I fed him on Hills Science Diet.  He weighed only 20kg when he came to me.  I took him once a week to get weighed and at first he was putting on 2kg per week.  Within approximately 12 weeks I had managed to get him up to 38kg.  Once up to strength he used to play like a puppy with my sons border terrier.  He was also besotted with our other Doberman, Tuela, but unfortunately she just chose to ignore him.

The second is a much happier picture of Chester as he turned out after his weight increased.  I had to get a professional photographer to take the picture as when I tried to take his photo he just kept coming to sit or stand by me. Even so, to get this photo I’m standing in front of him holding a piece of ham, and yes he did get to eat it after the photo was taken.

Unfortunately we have now lost him, he died in his sleep on 23rd April 2008, I felt lost in the house without him as he was such a big presence.  No matter where I sat he was there.  He could squeeze himself into the smallest of spaces just to be close.  I console myself with the thoughts that at least he had a good, happy, healthy lifestyle for his last year, and at least he lived quite a long life, and for the majority of it he was happy.  He was obviously socialised very well in his younger days he loved people, and made friends with everyone who came to our house.

I have now been lucky enough to have the privilege of rehoming a 12 week old brown and tan puppy, who we have called Tam.  She has definitely filled that big gap.  I can’t believe how quickly she has settled in to our home.

I found out about Tam through a lovely lady called Chris Omar, what would dogs do without her, I so admire her dedication for the Doberman breed.  I found out about Chris through a lady from Doberman Welfare.  Tam is terrorising Bob my son’s 2 year old Border terrier, she just wares him out.  Tuela our 6 year old Doberman is non committal about her at the moment.  Well I say our Doberman but I should say my husband’s Doberman, she ignores me when he is around, he carries a photo of her in his wallet, but not one of me, well she is a lot more photogenic than me.

A Sad Update.
Tams Mum contacted us recently to let us know that soon after Tams arrival, her beautiful girl Tuela sadly passed away.

Katie
Katie Katie

Katie is a 2 yr old unspayed brown and tan bitch.
She is lively and strong so would be best suited to an experienced dobermann home without children or cats. She gets on well with male dogs, and likes to play. She has an active mind and would benefit from further training and socialisation.
If you feel you have what it takes to offer Katie a forever home that would meet her needs, please fill in an enquiry form.

Update - 15/10/08

Katie has been under assessment in foster care with one of our volunteers for a while now and because her rehabilitation is going to need careful handling over an extended period of time, her carers have decided to adopt her, she couldn't have a better forever home now.

Otto is one of the puppies from DRA's second foster litter affectionately known as "Chelles Belles"
His new owner would like to share an update with us all.

"Here are some pictures of Otto he will be 18 weeks tomorrow, he like chasing his tail, rolling in the garden, and having his belly rubbed. He likes to eat everything (slippers, socks, stones, soil, wool, weeds, remote controls, wood, chairs, fingers, ears (pigs and mine), and anything else he can sneak into his mouth. He's the best dog in the world".

Tye
Tye Tye Tye

Tye is an entire black & tan male who will be 2 years old in September, he came to us via the dog pound in Rochdale.

He is a sweet boy, very friendly towards people, however he does not like other dogs, just bitches!!

His ideal home would be with someone either with land/large gardens, or someone who is prepared to put in the work to help him overcome his fear aggression with other dogs.

If you feel that you can offer Tye a forever home, please fill in one of our online enquiry forms.

Update - 14/09/08

Tye has gone home with his new family today x

Update - 22/09/08
Good news from Tyes new family.

" I think he has decided that he has landed on his feet and seems to have no worries about here being home.  I’ve even taken him out in the car to see if he gave an adverse reaction – not a thought of it, hopped in just fine – met the children from the school bus, came home as happy as Larry.  Still a way to go before he has fully understood that this is now his life but the signs are good (and he’s rather fond of sleeping in my office during the day – which is fine except for the one slightly unfortunate issue he has to resolve – he’s a bit windy and boy does that not work too well in a confined space, for me that is, he doesn’t seem to care!)"

Update - 10/11/08
More good news.

" Two months in and Tye is keeping his new family on their toes. With their loving attention, his physical scars are now healed, he has gained weight and looks in top form. A typical teenager he is testing the boundaries, as only dobes do! He still finds socialising with other dogs a challenge, and his new family are working hard to give him the confidence he needs. A loving boy, he is happiest when close to one of his two-legged family... and will do almost anything for a tickled ear or a stroke. "

A nice update for one of Chelles Belles.

"Hi Chris

At last I have managed with the assistance of Doug to e mail some photographs of Callie which hopefully you can will see.

Callie is just fabulous and gorgeous as you can see. She has become an inseparable friend to our Labrador Tia .

We have completed our puppy training course at the local dog training school and will now continue on to further obedience classes. She so far seems a natural !

Callie has filled the dreadful gap left when we lost our previous beloved Dobermann Ruby and the whole family adore her.

best wishes - hope you like the pictures

Kai is a seven month old black & tan male dobe with a tail. He is in a foster placement in Co Durham.

He is typical for his age, full of energy, playful and eager to learn. He loves a fuss and a cuddle. He gets on well and appropriately for his age with other dogs but has not lived with cats. He has not lived with young children.

Kai has had a chequered start to life, however since being fostered he has gained weight nicely and coped well with socialisation. He is responding well to basic commands and learning to walk nicely on lead.

He will need an owner who will be consistent and firm but kind. His new owner must be prepared to carry on the good work that has been done with him to date.

If you feel you can give this lovely boy a home that will meet his needs, please fill in an online enquiry form.

Spiral is a stray that we took in from the dog warden.

She is a four year old unspeyed black and tan bitch who has been heavily bred from. We think she has come from a gypsy camp as she looks like she has been tethered by one of her front legs.
She is in poor condition with various scars etc...A real rescue case!

She is very nervous of men (I wonder why) and is warey of strangers.

Can you offer her a decent life? She just needs somewhere to call home, someone to love and look after her. Are you that person?

Please fill in an enquiry form if you feel able to care for Spiral.

Taylor
Taylor Taylor

Taylor, a Christmas story...

Taylor was found as a stray by the dog warden and taken into a local dog rescue just before Christmas.  As an older dobe of about 8-9yrs, she found the kennels quite stressful and was finding it very hard. Due to her age, the chances of finding her a home would be slim, and harder still at this time of year. With Christmas looming it seemed she was doomed to spend it in the rescue, without the warmth and love of a family to call her own.

Little did she know that someone very special was going to change all that. Well, it was the season of goodwill to mankind, and that obviously includes “Dobermann”!  Dianne, a friend to Chris and the DRA, worked her magic with help from Kathy and Jay, performing what can only be called a Christmas miracle.

Taylors plight touched the hearts of a wonderful family, who just had to bring her home in time for Christmas, and drove all the way down to collect her on Christmas eve. Taylor not only has her new family of humans, but she has a dobe family too.

Here she is with her new dobe friends...From left to right Jasmine (from Di) and Barclay (from Jay) Darcy and Charlie (from DRA) and then Taylor herself...all owned by Stew and Mel.

Big thanks to all involved...it seems Christmas wishes can come true...they certainly did for this Dobie girl!

We wish her a happy and healthy life with her new family.

We are sad to update that Taylor died Christmas 2009

Harvey Jr is a 21 week old brown and tan male pup with a tail. He came into rescue when his owners realised they could not manage him due to age/ill health.

He is fostered by one of the DRA supporters and lives with two adult dobe girls, who are teaching him the “rules” and his foster carers also expose him to varied experiences/situations. A bright and cheeky lad, and is a typical dobe pup- he can be quiet and loud, calm and naughty all in the same hour! He is almost fully house trained but sometimes forgets, and currently is cutting his adult teeth.

Please don’t just see the puppy he is now, Harvey Jr is going to be a big lad, judging by his dinner plate paws, and he will require commitment and training throughout his life. His foster family have grown very, very fond of him and will want to stay in touch!

There is more information on this lad and all the other dobes needing homes on the forum- so please feel free to join up and chat.

Phoebe (nee Ruby)
Phoebe (nee Ruby) Phoebe (nee Ruby)

Phoebe came in to kennels in March 2009 at the age of 10 months.

DRA decided it would be in her best interest to try and find her a foster home as she did not adapt well to kennel life.  Phoebe was very timid, afraid of men and lacked trust….

Phoebe went to her foster home in April where she lived with another Dobermann.
Her foster carer’s decided to adopt her as she settled well into family life.

Phoebe has been with her new family for four months now, during that time she has learnt to enjoy car journeys. Phoebe likes long walks and weekends away with her new owners. Her confidence continues to grow and she is loved very much by her new family.

Lilly
Lilly Lilly Lilly

Lilly is a 3 year old brown & tan, docked, unspayed bitch.

She is good with other dogs and could live with older children.
She is not used to cats, and is very alert when out walking on the lead.
We feel that she would not come back if she picked up the scent of some animal. Therefore further training is required, and she would benefit from being kept on a long line for the foreseeable future.

Update - 03/11/09

We are pleased to announce that Lilly is now in her new forever home.

This lad has now found his forever home, wishing him and his new family many happy times together.

Black tan male- 2 years old
Black tan male- 2 years old

Merlin is a two year old, black/tan castrated male dobermann with a full tail.

He is wonderful with adults and children alike; very sweet in nature. Merlin is a typical active young male so needs a family who lead a full life, he can be left and is not destructive but would not suit full time workers, and a home without cats is a must.

Merlin has lived with other dogs, but can be over the top in his behaviour around them, so needs someone who will work on this. He would be ideally suited to someone who wishes to do some training with him such as work training or agility and someone who is used to high energy dogs. Merlin likes nothing more than to relax and chill with his people, so a great boy for someone who is looking for a family dog, but also a dog to train.

This boy will give great reward and pleasure to someone willing to put the effort in, and to work with his intelligent mind.

UPDATE 23 Jul 10

Chili has now found her new home. We wish her happy times!

17 May 10

Chilli is a 4 yr old, docked and neutered black/tan bitch. She has been in a foster home for some time, but unfortunately is not getting along with the other Dobermann bitch that lives there, and would be better as an only dog. She has lived with a cat, but chases!

Chilli does bark at other dogs when out walking on the lead but this is due to her lack of early socialisation and can be worked on. She needs an experienced Dobermann home, without young children, as she needs clear boundaries.

Chilli is currently located in NW England.
